Iloilo City Celebrates Dinagyang Festival 2017 [VIDEOS]

Dinagyang is an Iloilo version of the Ati-Atihan festival generally celebrated not just in Panay Island but as well as in various parts of the country.

It might not be as old as the in Kalibo Aklan Ati Atihan, but is certainly impressive in choreography as well as stunning with regards to the various costumes worn by contesting tribes that reflect the creativity, craftsmanship and also workmanship of the Ilonggos.

There are ten contesting tribes in the said event.

1. TRIBU PAGHIDAET

Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School joins in the famous Dinagyang Festival being a contesting tribe which aspires to help improve the tourism program of the city and create devotion to Sr. Sto. Niño. In 1999, the tribe first joined the Dinagyang Competition. The name Tribu Paghidaet remains to be used since Lapazenians are devoted to Sr. Santo Niño and also the intercession of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, they trust that it will likely to be blessed with exquisite performances in the famous competition.

 

 

2. TRIBU OBRERO

Tribu Obrero is known as the first local region based tribe since Bo. Obrero National High School along with the barangay officials as well as constituents joined together for the acknowledgment of this beneficial objective. “Tribu Obrero” is the idea of Anthony E. Portugalete together with the concurrence of Mrs. Mercedes A. Clavaton, Principal II and also the Bo. Obrero National High School Teachers and Staff, along with the Bo. Obrero Barangay Council led by Punong Barangay Ricardo Diño, Sr.

3. TRIBU ILONGANON

Tribu Ilonganon is a term originated from the word “Ilonggo” meaning a local of Iloilo, is definitely the pride of Jalandoni Memorial National High School (previously Lapuz High School.) They had been declared Champion in the year 2006 and had been also awarded Best in Performance, Choreography, and Choreographer on the very same year.

 

 

4. TRIBU ABIADOR

Tribu Abiador is created by the Asian College of Aeronautics last October 5, 2016, that they performed their very first rehearsal at Sambag gymnasium along with the approval of the Brgy. Officials led by Brgy. Captain Jagorin. The students of Asian College of Aeronautics are really excited in this festival because apart from being the first and only aviation school that joins Dinagyang Festival 2017, this is actually the first time that they will display their talent and also to prove everyone that they're not only good in the area of aviation but as well as on how to maintain and continue our tradition.

 

 

5. TRIBU DAGATNON

The newest tribe represents Ramon Avanceña National High School (RANHS). It's been ten years since RANHS first took part in the world-renowned Dinagyang Festival in 1998 as being “Tribu Sigabong.” This means the noise of firecrackers as well as pyrotechnics where the district of Arevalo (Villa) is well-known. Throughout the years, Dinagyang Festival has become a unifying component for the public/private partnership to function together towards a common goal. It's in the same line of thinking that Ramon Avancena National High School is joining again in this deserving event with the name “Tribu Dagatnon.”

 

6. TRIBU PANAYANON
“Tribu Panayanon” of Iloilo City National High School, Molo, Iloilo is the Dinagyang 2015 Grand Slam Champion. The Tribe bagged the title of Aliwan Fiesta 2013 Grand Champion taken at the Aliw Theater and Quirino Grandstand, Metro Manila, Philippines.

 


7. TRIBU BUNTATALANIT
Tribu BUNTATALANIT is the newest tribe in the Dinagyang festival scenery, being officially recognized by the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation on December 3, 2016,. just a month ahead of the 2017 Dinagyang Ati Competition scheduled on January 14 to 22, 2017.

 

8. TRIBU SALOGNON

In 2005, the name of the tribe was changed to “ANG TAGA-JARO”, a generic benchmark to the illustrious folks and historical area of Jaro. This title was still utilized up to the year 2009 when it has been returned to the first name “TRIBU SALOGNON”. The ongoing use of the title “TRIBU SALOGNON” was implemented by the current administration so as to project a continual of the tribe’s popular legacy. Including the legacy of being the grand champion in the 2016 Dinagyang Ati Tribe Competition.

 

9. TRIBU PAN-AY
Fort San Pedro National High School had its first participation in the Dinagyang Ati-ati competition in January 2006, when Tribu Ni San Pedro was set up by Dr. Belinda V. Dinopol, Principal III and tribe manager. Tribu Ni San Pedro won the Best in Discipline and was adjudged 4th Runner-up on its first venture with the rest of the experienced tribes joining the competition.

 

 

10. TRIBU AMIHAN

This year, Mandurriao National High School is cruising with great hope and spirit as well as strong will to beat once more the ocean of excellent competitors of the world-renowned Dinagyang Ati Tribe Competition within the great name TRIBU AMIHAN. Amihan signifies cool northeast wind that brings cold air to our shores. As the name implies, Tribu Amihan of Mandurriao National High School will strike its strongest monsoon wind within this year’s Dinagyang Contest.
