Death Squad copycats – On Monday, the Commission on Human Rights confirmed the fact that killing of criminals by the Davao Death Squad is currently being copied in some other cities.
CHR alarms on Davao Death Squad copycats – Marc Titus Cebreros, the CHR officer-in-charge confirmed the copycat killings, that he termed a “worrisome trend.”
He said, “The Davao Death Squad has spawned copycat activities in other key cities in Mindanao and even here in Luzon…It is a worrisome trend. We see that in Tagum, Cagayan de Oro and other cities in Mindanao. This cannot be a policy of the state whether the national or local government.”
Human Rights Watch previously observed about 1,000 death squad killings was reported in Davao City in the late 1990s. The first mayor of Davao City in 1988 is Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Mentioning a United States State Department cables unveiled by WikiLeaks in 2011, HRW mentioned Duterte's alleged type of justice, that has gone tolerated, appeared to have urged government-sanctioned death squads in different places like Cebu City, Toledo, as well as Carcar.
